The simple, effective, FDA-approved solution to wire migration
by LeBeau Medical, a patient safety product company.
What is biopsy wire migration, and what are the risks?
In preparation for a breast biopsy, a thin wire is inserted into the patient’s breast to mark questionable tissue for the surgeon. Did you know that prior to the procedure, this thin wire that marks the questionable tissue can move? This can cause the wire to:
- Travel inward, piercing the lung or heart (sometimes further)
- Pull outward, accidentally marking healthy tissue

Needle localization wires have a long history of being accidentally partially withdrawn resulting in a failed surgery or working themselves deeper resulting in lung collapse, pericardial tamponade or heart muscle penetration. Several studies examining these issues recommend securing the wire to the skin. Simply using the restroom, or minor patient movement could cause the above scenarios, but WireFix prevents this entirely.
WireFix is the affordable, FDA-approved solution that:
- Protects the patient from potential injury and provides much needed peace-of-mind leading up to a procedure
- Saves the physician and medical team’s valuable time
- Ensures a secure wire, and increases procedure accuracy
